North Dakota is one of the few places in the United States where you can hunt the majestic tundra swan. These birds are a sight to behold, with wingspans reaching up to 6 feet. The best time to hunt tundra swans is during the fall migration, typically from late October to early November. We recommend using a 12-gauge shotgun with 3 ½ inch shells, loaded with BB or BBB shot, to effectively take down these large birds. Given their size, a well-placed shot is crucial. Hunters should bring durable waders, warm, layered clothing, and face masks to blend into the environment.
North Dakota's wetlands are prime duck hunting territory, with species like mallards, pintails, and teal being the most common. The duck season kicks off in late September and runs through December, with the peak migration happening in October and November. A 12-gauge shotgun with 3-inch shells, loaded with No. 2 or No. 3 shot, is ideal for ducks. We recommend bringing waterproof gear, as many of these hunts take place in marshy areas.
Hunting Canadian geese in North Dakota is an experience like no other. These large birds are abundant in the state, especially during the early season in September and again during the late season from November through December. Canadian geese are hefty birds, so a 12-gauge shotgun with 3-inch or 3 ½ inch shells, loaded with BB or BBB shot, is recommended. We will be hunting field blinds and over a strong set of goose decoys. We recommend you bring warm camouflaged clothing into the late-season, fields tend to get cold where these birds often feed.
Snow geese migrate through North Dakota in massive flocks, providing an exhilarating hunt. The best time to target snow geese is during the spring conservation season or the fall migration, typically in October and November. For snow geese, a 12-gauge shotgun with 3 ½ inch shells loaded with BB or T shot is the best option due to their size and the high-flying nature of these birds. You'll be hunting over plenty of decoys, as snow geese are wary and tend to circle multiple times before committing, we need to be patient for the right shot at the group. Hunters should also bring white camouflage gear to blend in with the snow-covered fields where these birds often land.
